Doubt continues surrounding Jannik Sinner's participation in the 2024 French Open with reports swirling this week that the Italian has been told to avoid playing the tournament with further hip damage likely. But coach Darren Cahill threw up a cryptic sign instead.
Sinner hasn't played since the fourth round of the Madrid Open. He withdrew on the eve of his Quarter-Final match due to a hip injury he suffered at the Monte-Carlo Masters. His presence seemed in doubt as a result as he looked towards the state of the art facility at football club Juventus for some semblance of a run at Roland Garros.
But it seems to appear that things are changing in the direction of him attempting to play Roland Garros in a similar vein to Carlos Alcaraz. Darren Cahill posted a shot of a photo and a racquet with the balls marked Roland Garros on a clay court. It seems likely as a result that this is done with a purpose. As well as that Sinner could yet be back on court already.
The Italian though even if this is the current decision likely won't take a full on view at his participation until just before the draw in a similar vein to Alcaraz. Novak Djokovic is seemingly ready to pounce if either decide not to play. He will get matches in over the next week at the Geneva Open. This after taking a late wildcard to the tournament. He has been a real doubt more on form than injury with the ATP suffering a real crisis at the moment.
Most of the top names are either injured or out of form which could produce the most open Roland Garros ever with as many as 10 contenders at least for the crown at the French Open this year.
