Indian tennis player Sumit Nagal has revealed that he is spending close to 200 thousand US dollars every year on tennis.
The 26-year-old became famous after his quote emerged in the recent past where he stated that he only had 900 euros left in his bank.
Nagal was recently quoted in a report where he went on to explain in detail the steep cost of playing tennis at the highest level.
โ€œThe thing with tennis is that it is a funny sport,โ€ he said. โ€œYou can spend as much as you want. Firstly, you have to figure out what your budget is for a tennis coach. If you have got a little bit extra, then you get your fitness trainer involved.
โ€œThen if you have a little bit extra, then you get a physio involved. If you have a little bit extra, people travel with doctors, I'm just giving an example, so it all depends on what type of budget you have.
โ€œYou can spend as much as you want because there are some coaches who are going to cost you, for example, โ‚ฌ2,000 or โ‚ฌ3,000 a week. And then, there are some coaches who are going to cost you โ‚ฌ7,000 a week. So it all depends on how much you can spend.
โ€œThere are coaches charging over โ‚ฌ10,000 a week who are coaching the top 20 players. Their coaches would charge them almost $300,000 to $400,000 a year on a contract.
โ€œSo it all depends on who you are, where you're living, and what is the budget you want to spend. I've been spending more than $120,230 โ€“ $180,348 dollars on a yearly basis.โ€
Nagal is currently ranked 170 in the ATP rankings and has never won a single ATP title in his career.
He has only played in the main draw of a Grand Slam twice and both times it was in the US Open, in 2019 and in 2020.
