Daniil Medvedev struggled a bit during his 1st round match against Ilya Ivashka but after the match, he brushed off concerns.
Daniil Medvedev was up 5-1 against Ivashka in his first match at the
Paris Masters. The Belarussian player fought back to make it 5-5 before Medvedev was able to take the first set. The 2nd set was another close one but for Medvedev, getting the win was all that matters. Speaking to the media afterward he said:
“The last time we played he beat me at Davis Cup. I’ve known him since the Futures and I knew that he’s a great player on the rise, so I knew it would not be easy."
Speaking furher on the match Medvedev said:
"At the beginning of the match [my level] was good but in the middle
of the match, there were some things I could do better. The most
important thing is victory. It doesn’t matter how you play in
the first round. The one who raises his level throughout the tournament
is the one who will win it.”
Medvedev will face Sebastian Korda next and speaking about playing him for the first time, The Russian said:
“It’s always exciting to play someone for the first time. We’ve
never even practiced together. He just had a great win over Marin
[Cilic] who is coming off a tournament win, so I’m very excited to play
him tomorrow.”
