Novak Djokovic will be ready in '10 or 11 days' for the Australian Open says his coach Goran Ivanisevic despite many fearing the worst initially for the 24-time Grand Slam champion amid his wrist struggles at the United Cup.
Limping through against Jiri Lehecka, it was really targeted against Alex de Minaur who ended a huge winning streak in Australia and dealt Djokovic a blow as he was denied treatment by a physio and while he has said there is nothing to worry about some see it as a real issue heading into the Australian Open.
But Ivanisevic said it is 'not a big deal' and more on the brighter side, they managed to get matches in ahead of the Australian Open which kicks off on January 14 in which Djokovic will likely play on the opening day as a result of being the number one seed. So time is ticking but at least from his coach, this worry is needless.
"I think Alex played very well, intelligently from a tactical point of view. There is a problem with Novak's wrist, but the most important thing is that he will be ready in 10 or 11 days," he said to B92.
“We will take a few days of rest & then start training slowly. It is not a big deal. We came here to play a few matches, & he did. He played three good matches. Maybe yesterday wasn't the case. It wasn't a good match from a results point of view, but it was definitely good preparation, & that's what he needed.”
