Carlos Alcaraz Madrid Open 2021
Carlos Alcaraz had to play to matches in order to secure the final in Rio de Janeiro and he was able to win both of them taking down Berrettini and Fognini.
Rain has caused a lot of trouble for the organizers of the Rio tennis event in the past few days. One victim was Carlos Alcaraz who had to play two matches in a day against two very different and tough opponents. Carlos Alcaraz completed an Italian job beating Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini as he pulled double duty following a Friday rainout.
After the 2nd win, Alcaraz said:
"It means a lot to me. I surprised myself to be able to win two matches in a row on the same day. It's tough to win one match, two is even tougher."
The matchup in the final will be a difficult one as he will take on Diego Schwartzman and on that he said:
"I'm really focussed on the final. I know that it's going to be at really tough final against Diego. He's playing well and he plays really good tennis on clay... I'm really excited to play."
The final is set for 21:30 CET time.
