Rafael Nadal is a vaccinated player and he would like to see more players join him as he believes that vaccination is necessary to overcome the pandemic.
It's been a very tough time for all the people on the planet as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on. While things have improved dramatically since the introduction of vaccines slow adoption of the vaccines in the general public prolongs the public health crisis. That is why Rafael Nadal would like to see an increase in vaccination:
"I understand that there are people who do not want to be vaccinated, but it seems a bit selfish to me. We have suffered a lot. We do not know 100 percent the effects of vaccines, but we do have to trust the doctors... we do know the effect of the virus if we are not vaccinated."
Nadal then gave an example of Spain where rates are very low due to a high number of vaccinations:
"It seems that today we [Spain] are the country that is least affected by the virus and I think it is because we have a large part of the population vaccinated."
Several high-profile tennis players who have been mistrusting the vaccine in the past got vaccinated recently and that list includes Medvedev, Rublev, Tsitsipas, Sabalenka, Thiem, and more. The majority of them quoted the Australian Open as a driving factor for the vaccination as the event will impose strict rules for those who are not vaccinated.
