Stefanos Tsitsipas came within two points of defeat in a bruising battle with Jack Sock to claw his way into the third round of the BNP Paribas Open Saturday night.
Sock trouble Tsitsipas all night long with his forehand as he blasted 28 winners in the 3-set affair that almost lasted three hours. The American was up 5-3 in the final set tiebreak but lost four points in a row to lose the match and send Tsitsipas to the next round. The Greek was well aware of how close he was to being out speaking after the match:
”It was a crazy battle; we both left everything out there. Jack played incredibly well at times but I was able to bring out the best in my game at the end. I proved I could play aggressive tennis and stay calm at the same time.”
It doesn't get easier for Tsitsipas who will face American hot-shot Jenson Brooksby in the next round and that promises to be a very interesting affair as well.
