World No. 8
Karolina Pliskova reveals she sustained a hand injury after falling down in the gym during the preseason.
In December, Pliskova announced she sustained a hand injury out of nowhere which left many confused as to how it really hapepned. Expecteadly, Pliskova missed a few months of tennis including the Australian Open which was a huge blow for her. Speaking after her
Indian Wells match, Pliskova explained what had happened:
"I fell down in the gym. I was doing some jumps and fell down and I broke [the radius bone in the right arm]. I heard a click. It was fully broken."
Her first match back in Indian Wells was solid but she lost to world number 71 Kovinic in a 3-set match. It was the first meeting between Kovinic and Pliskova. Losing her first match in four months isn't alarming but Pliskova will certainly feel regrets since she was up by a set and a break. Pliskova will now turn her focus on the Miami Masters.
