"It was one of the most emotional matches of my career" says Nadal after Australian Open triumph

Rafael Nadal rallied from being down two sets to love to winning 3-2 and becoming the player with the most grand slam trophies at the moment.

His tally currently sits at number 21 which is one more than Djokovic and Federer who shared number two. It was a very emotional match that featured a comeback from Nadal when it was almost but certain he would love the match. Speaking during the trophy ceremony after it he said:

“It was one of the most emotional matches of my career. To share the court with Daniil was just an honour. It is amazing. To be honest, one and a half months ago I wasn’t sure if was able to be back on the Tour playing tennis again. But today I am here in front of all of you with this trophy in front of me. You are just amazing, thank you so much.”

Nadal enjoyed heavy support from the Australian fan base en route to his 2nd Australian Open trophy and the support means a lot to Nadal. It was something that was there from the beginning of the event especially after Nadal made a surprise visit to Melbourne at a time when many were debating whether he will play at all. He said:

“Having the huge support I received over the past three weeks is going to stay in my heart for the rest of my life, so thank you very much."
