Rafael Nadal is currently back home in Spain as he works toward recovering from a foot injury that has plagued him throughout 2021.
The injury trouble him so much that Nadal decided to abandon the 2021 season completely in favour of trying to recover as best he can in time for the 2022 season. The injury isn't something new and Nadal has dealt with it on and off since 2006. Recently Nadal spoke about his progress for the first time since announcing he would not play in 2021 anymore saying:
“I’ve been better, but I’m fine. A little sore from the foot. It is a time that is a bit complicated on a personal and professional level. Honestly, with the illusion of improving and facing a process that is going to be difficult and painful at some point, but that I have to go through to get back in a position to fight for what I want. I am determined to do it.”
Nadal also struck a grateful tone explaining he achieved much more than he ever dreamt of achieving despite many injuries over the years:
“I have had fantastic things, bigger things than I would have ever dreamed of, and also more complicated moments in the form of injuries. But, within what is possible I have always had a way to get ahead.”
