Former World No.1 Andy Roddick accumulated several awards during his tennis career, one of which saw him listed on Teen People's Sexiest Guys Ever list. Now retired, the American looks back at the incident, claiming most of his friends are not impressed by that achievement.

Roddick rose to superstardom when he won his maiden Grand Slam trophy at the 2003 US Open. Subsequently, he would ascend to the World No.1 ranking in 2004, becoming the face of American men's tennis in the process.

His rapid success took him by surprise, says Roddick

The New England native became a household name following his Major win on home soil, which led to him gaining heartthrob status among thousands of female fans. In 2004, Teen People listed Roddick in its October 2004 issue as one of the 50 Sexiest Guys Ever.

“This sports god, commonly referred to as A-Rod, has the fastest serve in the game, so it's no surprise that he works out...a lot,” wrote the magazine.

Now retired, the 42-year old spoke with PEOPLE Magazine, stating his friends are amused by him being placed on a 'Sexiest Guys' list.

"Now it’s hilarious to my friends,” he said. “This will come out and I’ll get made fun of, because they certainly aren’t impressed."

Furthermore, Roddick reflected on his mindset during that period in his career, admitting his life changed in an instant once he won his first Grand Slam title.

"It was just strange," added the American. "Honestly, I was a normal dude, and then I started winning tennis matches and I could afford a house. And then it seemed like everything changed.”

Roddick retired in 2012, but has been a fixture on the tennis scene as he does commentary and analysis for The Tennis Channel. Furthermore, he launched his own podcast, Served with Andy Roddick, where he discusses all the current events happening in the tennis community.
