Denis Shapovalov has spoken out after the Jannik Sinner positive test scandal and his tweet where he chimed that it is different rules for different players.
Speaking this week to Tennis Majors ahead of UTS New York, Shapovalov said that all players are not treated equally after failing doping tests and it is more of an attack on the tennis authorities than Sinner.
The Canadian said that it was nothing to do really with the World No.1 and more how the situation was handled. Sinner tested positive twice for the substance Clostebol which was administered supposedly through a massage after his physio used the cream on an injured finger.
He tested positive at Indian Wells and twice overall in March but appealed both suspensions twice and was successful. This meant that it didn't reach the public domain until he was confirmed to not have any fault or negligence for the positive test.
But not without the tennis public including players making their mind up and tweeting their dismay at the situation including in this case Shapovalov.
“Honestly, it has nothing to do with Jannik. To me, it’s just about how they handle every situation differently, depending on what player it is," said Shapovalov to Tennis Majors.
"It’s not right that some players have been suspended for years for contamination, and other players are able to play and they’re just trying to sweep it under the rug. There are a couple of other players who have never tested positive and missed a couple of tests, and are given an 18-month ban.”
