Stefanos Tsitsipas will start off his season at the
ATP Cup, unlike
Novak Djokovic who withdrew from the event due to the rules in place.
Djokovic is yet to get vaccinated and according to reports, he seems unlikely to do so. Whatever happens with all of that remains to be seen but multiple reports have things shaping up quite differently. Some say he will get an exemption, some say he was denied one yet he was spotted training in Spain indicating a trip to Australia might be still in the cards.
Stefanos Tsitsipas was asked about the whole situation and while Tsitsipas did not mention Djokovic he did say:
"Rules are rules, and they are established for a purpose. So if some players decide not to follow them, it’s their choice. I wouldn’t say it’s right or wrong here. I followed whatever was necessary in order for me to come into Australia."
Asked specifically about Djokovic and his stance, he briefly said:
“If Djokovic thinks he is not ready to play ATP Cup for whatever reason, it is his choice. I think most of the players respect his choice. What can I say? The ATP Cup will lack on a great player this year.”
