Dominic Thiem produced one of his best matches since coming back from a wrist injury beating Hurkacz in Antwerp.
The match itself was a long one and a very physical one. We saw two tiebreaks and both were won by Thiem who bombarded away from the baseline with Hurkacz unable to do much to stop him. The Austrian also won the serving battle and that was a huge problem for Hurkacz.
Following the match, Thiem spoke admitting that this win is special:
“It’s very special. This victory especially is unbelievable because it’s a first victory over an almost top 10 guy in my comeback process. It was unbelievable to play. Great atmosphere, a close match. So thank you very much to everybody.”
Thiem will now face Sebastian Korda in the semi-final for a place in the final and if he continues to play well, there's a good chance he's going to get it.
