Roger Federer announced his retirement yesterday and many colleagues paid tribute to him including
Serena Williams The legends of the game shared a mutual respect for everything they have done for the sport they both love. Williams and Federer might be the most important tennis players in history as they lead the revival of the sport in the early 2000s which coincided with their ascension to the top. They have now retired within a month of each other and Williams wrote something on social media:
“I wanted to find the perfect way to say this, as you so eloquently put this game to rest - perfectly done, just like your career. I have always looked up to you and admired you. Our paths were always so similar, so much the same.
“You inspired countless millions and millions of people - including me - and we will never forget. I applaud you and look forward to all that you do in the future. Welcome to the retirement club. And thank you for being you @rogerfederer.”
It's also the first time Williams kind of used the word retirement instead of evolution as she welcomed him to the retirement club.
