Jack Draper has planned a training block with
Carlos Alcaraz after being told to leave the UK by various tennis insiders especially during the winter months where it is currently below freezing.
Draper has endured a breakthrough season winning two titles, he has cracked the top 15 and reached the semi-finals of the 2024 US Open. According to the
Daily Mail, he will spend a week of his pre-season training with Wimbledon champion Alcaraz. The British No.1 and his team will gleam knowledge from not only Alcaraz but of course
Juan Carlos Ferrero at his academy in Alicante.
His coach James Trotman who has been a presence through his rise back from injury to his best ever ranking said on the opportunity. "It's incredibly important to spend time with the best players, experience that on a daily basis."
Draper is now up to World No.15 after a breakthrough season and his mission now is to hunt down the top names. This includes of course Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner so is perhaps a move that both aids and hinders Alcaraz in terms of gleaming some of his secrets but learning some of Draper's.
But it is a match-up that also saw Draper have some success. He defeated him famously at Queen's which followed multiple big results including winning Stuttgart, his run at the US Open and also a title at the Vienna Open.
Andy Murray's former coach Mark Petchey suggested that he needs to go somewhere hot and humid for his training. Andy Roddick similarly agreed about the heat with of course the Australian Open taking place during the height of the summer. While in the UK, it will be snowing and likely sub zero until at least March when preparation will begin towards the clay court season.
Also with Great Britain not making it to the Davis Cup Finals, it gives players like Draper more time in order to train ahead of 2025 with a very truncated off season.
