Jannik Sinner and Anna Kalinskaya are reportedly taking some time apart, according to the Daily Mail. The tennis couple is said to be going through a "crisis" so they can "better understand their relationship and future."
The world No. 1 claimed his 8th title of the season last Sunday at the ATP Finals, defeating Taylor Fritz (6-4, 6-4), marking his first trophy on home soil. Just a couple of months ago in New York, he beat the same opponent at the US Open, where he was joined by his girlfriend Kalinskaya, sharing a kiss in front of the crowd as he greeted family and friends.
Kalinskaya ended her season after losing in the quarterfinals of the Ningbo Open to Karolina Muchova (6-2, 2-6, 3-6) but did not accompany Sinner in Turin. Recently, she has shared pictures from Moscow, Russia. Another unusual change is that the two are no longer following each other on Instagram.
"Having a girlfriend is something that either makes you feel good or bad. I want it to be something that feels very natural, that enters my life normally," Sinner said a few months ago to Il Messaggero. "I can't afford to change as a player or a person. This hasn't happened, which is why it works."
After winning the title in Turin, Sinner notably did not mention Kalinskaya in his victory speech: "The crowd was incredible. Normally, the cheering starts from the first match, but here it started a week before the tournament. I thank my family and my staff for this incredible journey," he said.
The world No. 1 is now preparing for his final challenge of the season, leading Italy in their Davis Cup title defence starting Thursday, 21 November. The Europeans, with Sinner and Lorenzo Musetti as singles players, will face Argentina in the quarterfinals, led by Sebastián Báez and Francisco Cerúndolo.
