The ATP China Open final clash between Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev has become the the most-watched tennis match in the history of the channel Italian SuperTennis TV.
Sinner and Medvedev took to the court at the National Tennis Center in Beijing on Wednesday, October 4, to battle it out for the ATP 500 title. Both sets were closely contested and two tiebreaks were required but ultimately Sinner emerged victorious 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2).
This meant that the Italian got his first win on the board against the Russian, who had previously led their head-to-head 6-0, and also moved up three places in the ATP Ranking to World No. 4, making him the highest-ranked Italian player since Adriano Panatta in 1976. This victory also puts the 22-year-old in a good position to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.

Most-watched final in channel's 15 year history

Italian SuperTennis TV was launched in 2008 and according to a recent report, an average of 478,779 fans watched the China Open final, which represents a 4.65 percent viewership share for the tournament.
The live broadcast reached 1,192,090 viewers for at least one minute while contacts exceeded 2 million at 2,000,772 throughout the day. Prior to this, the channel's average viewership record was just over 476,000.
This was set almost a decade ago at the clash between Italian player Sara Errani and Serena Williams in the final of the 2014 Internazionali BNL d'Italia.
Errani was attempting to become the first home player to win the Italian Open since Raffaella Reggi in 1985. However, she sustained a left thigh injury in the first set that contributed to her straight-sets defeat against the American.
Sinner and Medvedev are both set to compete at the ATP Shanghai Masters, with their first-round matches taking place on Saturday, October 7. Sinner will face American player Marcos Giron and Medvedev will take on Chilean player Cristian Garin.
