Jannik Sinner played a superb match, his best on grass ever to take down a solid but uninspiring Carlos Alcaraz 6-1 6-4 6-7(8) 6-3.
The first part of this match was largely dominated by Jannik Sinner who came out with a very high intensity and superb level. The Italian practically did not miss the entire set as he forced Alcaraz into a lot of discomfort. The Spaniard did not handle it well playing incredibly erratic at times dropping the opening set 1-6. The 2nd set was a bit better but once again Sinner was the much better player.
Alcaraz struggled a lot on return which is unusual for him as he tends to put players under a lot of pressure. Sinner did serve well but it wasn't anything out of the ordinary it was more so his deep balls forcing Alcaraz to defend more than he would like to. Sinner's flat groundstrokes also did a lot of damage in the opening two sets.
Sinner was also the better player in the 3rd set putting Alcaraz under a lot of pressure. In this set, both had chances but we ended up in a tiebreak where we saw a lot of drama. Alcaraz was up 6-4 but then lost three points in a row having to face a match point. He would save two of them en route to the 10-8 tie-break win. He had a lot of chances to start the 4th as well.
Multiple break points but he failed to utilize them. Then he dropped his serve to give Sinner an early 3-1 lead and failed to take advantage of a 40-0 lead on Sinner's serve. That proved his doom as Sinner cruised from there 6-2 to finish the final set.
