Switzerland’s legendary tennis star Roger Federer has congratulated Italy’s Jannik Sinner for becoming the world number one.
The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of the most highly rated players in men’s tennis's singles category.
Sinner has recently become the first Italian player in men’s and women’s tennis to become the world number one after a series of impressive performances.
Switzerland’s legendary star Federer congratulated Sinner on becoming the world number one in a video and called him a ‘great player’ and a ‘great person’.
"Hey Jannik, many congratulations also from my side to become World No. 1,” he said. “I think this is for me, personally, maybe the ultimate achievement. And I'm sure you are incredibly happy and you should be so proud. It's incredible. I couldn't be more happier for you. You're a great person, great player, and I wish you only the best for the future, Jannik. Take care. I'll see you soon. Bye."
Sinner managed to replace Serbia’s Novak Djokovic at the top of the ATP rankings after his recent withdrawal from the French Open, just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud, due to a knee injury.
