Former world number one
Andy Roddick praised Italy’s Jannik
Sinner after an error-free
ATP Finals campaign. The 23-year-old is already
regarded as the best player currently playing in the men’s tennis in the singles
category.
Sinner had a fabulous year, and he rounded it off in style
in front of the home crowd in Turin on Sunday, where he defeated America’s Taylor
Fritz in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 6-4. It was his third
major title this year. Earlier, he lifted the Australian Open after beating
Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a score of
3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. He then lifted the US Open title after beating Fritz
in the final in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.
While doing this, he became only the third player in the
history of men’s tennis in the singles category to win the Australian Open, the
US Open and the ATP Finals in the same year. Former world number one Roddick was
recently quoted in a report praising Sinner's performance. The one-time Grand
Slam winner thought the Italian tennis star was error-free throughout the whole
campaign in Turin. He also highlighted Sinner's no apparent weakness anymore.
"I mean, I don't know that we can overcomplement this
guy on how he played this week,” he said. “There were just no errors, like he
will miss a shot, maybe one or two a set, but it's the right shot, it's an
aggressive miss and then he is right back to work. With his serve going the way
it's going down, if you run back what the book was on Sinner three years ago,
it was like, 'Okay well, his serve is good, not great, maybe he is not as
strong as he could be, maybe when he gets stronger, he is going to get out of
the corners, in big matches, maybe he gets a little bit tight.' None of those
exist anymore. Talk about progress.”
