Jenson Brooksby is slowly solidifying himself as a future tennis star with another brilliant win over Van De Zandschulp in Antwerp.
Brooksby first emerged in 2021 at the Miami Open reaching the main draw through the qualifiers and since then the American has slowly worked his way inside the top 100. A very unorthodox style of playing tennis catches many players off guard including world number one Djokovic who had a lot of trouble in dealing with the youngster in New York.
The American is currently lining up players at the Antwerp European Open where he defeated a higher ranked player for the 2nd time in a week. First, he bested Opelka in two sets and now he did it again against Van De Zandschulp. It was a straightforward win for Brooksby who dominated from the start of the match.
Van De Zandschulp is mostly a challenger player who emerged at the US Open. His game is based around his powerful serve but today Brooksby was a bit lucky with it. Botic hit only 45 % of his first serves and that allowed Brooksby to attack him on his weaker serve with great success. An early 4-1 lead soon became a 6-2 opening set victory.
The 2nd set was even more impressive from Brooksby who was feeling himself on the court. Van De Zandschulp hit more first serves than in the first set but Brooksby was ready. The American dominated rallies with his variety of shots and soon a 2-0 lead became a 4-0 lead. That lead turned into a 2nd set bagel with the American moving on. This win brings him closer to officially qualify for the Next Gen Finals in Milan.
