Jiri Vesely continued his dream week in Dubai by taking down yet another big name and this time around it was
Novak Djokovic who was shocked.
Vesely is playing amazing tennis all week long and the Czech player already defeated Marin Cilic and Roberto Bautista Agut. Now he achieved the biggest win of his career by taking down Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Vesely took an early 2-0 lead after Djokovic started the match slowly but things looked all right not long after that when Djokovic took a 3-2 lead.
The Serbian did not serve too well all day long and he had a lot of issues on his 2nd serve. Vesely attacked him with great success and Djokovic never quite found a way to combat that. Vesely eventually took another break later on in the set closing it out with 6-4.
Djokovic did not play much better in the 2nd set although he did serve a bit better which made things easier for him. Vesely was still able to take a lead towards the end of the 2nd set bringing himself very close to winning. He served for the match at 5-4 but Djokovic was able to break back and give himself a chance. Eventually, we ended up in a tiebreak after Vesely saved a set point.
In the tiebreak, Vesely took a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Ultimately he finished it off with 7-4 for the biggest win of his career. This loss means that Djokovic won't be number one on Monday with Daniil Medvedev taking over.
