John Isner has retired from the singles and doubles main draw of the BNP Paribas Open in order to travel home and await the birth of his child.
John Isner played some solid tennis at the Laver Cup where he last played. After that, he was able to win his first matches in singles and doubles at the Indian Wells and it looked like the American might be able to achieve a notable result at the event. However, none of that will happen now as the American officially withdrew from the event.
The reason why is a great one as he is preparing to become a father for a 3rd time. His wife is expected to give birth any time and Isner said in a statement:
"Pretty eventful day...I need to go home to be with the family, that is what my duty is right now. Much more important than tennis."
The American was supposed to play a doubles match with Jock Sock last night and a single match against Jannik Sinner.
