Kei Nishikori is playing his best tennis in a long time and the Japanese player finds inspiration in seeing other Japanese athletes win medals for their country.
Kei Nishikori was able to find some magic back home in Japan as he is playing his best tennis in a very long time. The Japanese player is only one match away from the medal round but he will need to go through Novak Djokovic to get there. Even so, he is not getting discouraged:
“I’m looking forward to playing tomorrow. It wasn’t easy playing singles and doubles. I
know it’s going to a tough one. He’s the number one player. He’s the toughest guy in the draw so I have to play my best.”
Japan is having a very successful
Olympic Games as their currently lead all nations with 13 gold medals and Nishikori thinks it's great. He said:
"It’s very inspiring. I’ve been watching every day,
I watched softball yesterday, ping pong and swimming too — they were doing really good. That’s for sure inspiring me.”
He further added:
“That’s the good thing about playing an Olympics here. You can see many athletes playing well, and
even if it’s different sports you get many different emotions.”
