Nick Kyrgios and
Thanasi Kokkinakis played another great match to advance to the
Australian Open doubles quarterfinals.
The Australian pairing is looking quite formidable as they continue to serve extremely well and that allows them to win a lot of free points. The best friends also know each other pretty well and that works on the court. They faced Behar & Escobar who are no world beaters but they can play good doubles tennis. The Australians took the first set with 6-4 creating a lot of buzz on the stands.
The 2nd set was not as good for the Australians as their opponents were able to take advantage of some bad decisions by Kokkinakis and Kyrgios. The crowd was enjoying the match fully and nobody seemed worried that the Australians would both this. Indeed they didn't as they won the final set with 6-4 to advance to the quarterfinals.
It was not as good a match as in the previous round but they got the job done and moved on. They will face Puetz and Venus in the next round and that's a matchup they can win as well. If they do they will be in the semifinals and with the crowd backing them, everything is possible.
