Thanasi Kokkinakis played another solid match in his hometown of Adelaide but he was unable to get the job done against Bautista Agut 6-7(4) 6-3 3-6.
The match itself was a very interesting one as the first set didn't feature many chances for both players. We ended up in a tiebreak after a closely contested match and Bautista was able to win it 7-4. The second set was one where Kokkinakis finally found his form of recent days outhitting Bautista comfortably.
He won it 6-3 but failed to follow it up with a strong performance in the final set. It was a disappointing set and match overall for the Australian who wasted many chances. He was 1/12 on break points on the day which is just poor overall. He also allowed only one break point to Bautista Agut and the Spaniard took it.
Just not good enough in the crucial rallies but he'll be happy about his level overall. He should be primed for a good showing at the Australian Open.
