Filip Krajinovic is currently in isolation in Doha after a team member of his tested positive for the virus which jeopardized his appearance in Dubai.
For the Serbian, it came as an annoyance that should have not happened according to the rules. The Serbian spoke to the Serbian media where he explaining the whole messy situation that has him stuck in a Doha hotel room for the moment with the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships looming. He said:
"I am contemplating whether to continue the season or just wait out the situation in Serbia. They keep changing the rules all the time. There was a rule that you can play as long as you are not infected which is why I booked separate rooms for everyone. And now, a member is infected and I still can't play. The rules are different everywhere and they keep changing."
And while the situation is obviously frustrating it is no wonder that rules are changing because the situation is very fluid everywhere in the world. His next comment was also a very bombastic one where he claimed that most tennis players lost the will to play the game. He said:
"Many players lost motivation. The prize money is down, you saw how it was in Australia. Many lost the will to play tennis, as did I"
To a degree, it's not a shocking statement as we have seen many of the world's best skipping events more often than they would usually do. The pandemic has obviously something to do with it but it's a difficult situation for everyone to handle and tennis players are no different especially with all the travel.
Does this mean many players will opt-out, probably not but it is concerning to a degree that players are losing the will to play the game they grew up on and love? The sport has been heavily hit by the pandemic and one can only hope this will all be over soon.
