Nick Kyrgios and Jack Draper are the latest players to withdraw from the 2023 Madrid Open with both players still dealing with injuries.
Nick Kyrgios has been out pretty much from the start of the year due to the knee injury that prevented him from playing at the Australian Open. Returning on clay was always unlikely to happen because the Australian doesn't like the surface and it's not really the best surface to return to after a long knee injury.
Madrid plays a bit differently and he was initially on the entry list but he opted against that. It remains to be seen whether Kyrgios will fulfil his promise from last year to play at Roland Garros. He said that he'll be there because his girlfriend wants to see Paris. Joining Kyrgios on the pull-out list is Jack Draper whose condition is starting to get worrisome.
The Brit played a really solid event in Monte-Carlo losing to Hurkacz in an epic 3-set match however he's yet to play since then. The Brit has been generally dealing with a lot of injuries since the start of the year and this is not very promising for a youngster who should be fairly healthy at this stage of his career.
