Nick Kyrgios is not particularly a fan of the current way the ATP determines rankings as he feels it rewards consistency far more than actual skill and form.
Mathematically speaking, the more you play the better ranked you will if you play at a decent level. According to Kyrgios it's not a good model because it rewards the wrong thing. There are alternative methods of doing rankings with the UTR something that is gaining popularity among tennis fans.
According to that ranking Kyrgios would be ranked number two at the moment and he reacted to that on Twitter. He wrote it in all caps to really show he means it:
"IVE SAID IT BEFORE. THE CURRENT RANKING SYSTEM IS BASED ON CONSISTENCY & HOW MUCH YOU PLAY. NOT SKILL & FORM"

IVE SAID IT BEFORE. THE CURRENT RANKING SYSTEM IS BASED ON CONSISTENCY & HOW MUCH YOU PLAY. NOT SKILL & FORM 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️
