Nick Kyrgios has been one of the most vocal defenders of
Novak Djokovic since his visa issue arose and it was widely unexpected.
The Australian has never been a huge fan of Djokovic and criticized him many times when he felt Djokovic is in the wrong. Despite that, he also always respected him and he showed that respect by being the most vocal Djokovic supporter during his visa cancellation chaos. In another recent interview Kyrgios blasted other players for failing to do the same which Kyrgios said was the humane thing to do:
"On a human level, he needs support from other players. "[Stefanos] Tsitispas, I get you have your views on vaccination. [Andy] Murray, we can always count to say the right thing, Nadal whatever... But bro, where is your support for the guy?"
It's an interesting take especially at a time when a lot of tennis players have been rather quiet on the matter. Not many publicly supported him with quite a few calling it his own doing. None of that is false of course but it's evident that Djokovic does not enjoy the same popularity amongst his peers as some others do. Kyrgios also admitted that Djokovic reached out to him via Instagram thanking him for speaking up for him.
