Ashleigh Barty is expected to win the Australian Open at least once in her career and the Australian is well aware of the pressure to do it.
2022 started extremely well for Barty who was the ifrst event where she played. It was a pretty good showing by Barty as she dominated most tennis players she faced. In such good form, Barty is widely expected to go deep in Australia where so far she has struggled a bit. She understands the immense pressure she feels at the event:
“I can't do any more than I can try. That's all I can do. If it doesn't happen, it doesn't happen. I just have to hope that everyone understands that I'm giving it my best crack. It doesn't always work out exactly how you want to. But you go about it the right way, you do the right things and try and give yourself the best chance, that's all you can do."
Barty had decent runs in Melbourne before but each time she somehow finds herself completely falling apart, oftentimes against lesser players as well. She remembers some of those defeats vividly and calls them lessons:
“I've had some pretty tough lessons, but also some incredible moments (in Australia). Hopefully, that puts me in good stead, for another year, another crack here, and we just keep going.”
Whether 2022 is the year remains to be seen but not many tennis players have played better so far.
