2022 Australian Open WTA projected quarterfinals features possible Barty-Sakkari encounter

The Australian Open kicks off in a few days, with several of the WTA's best all competing to add the prestigious Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup to their cabinet.

With the draw already out, some enticing matchups have been revealed which allows competitors to see potential opponents on their path to the final. World No.1 Ashleigh Barty could face a familiar foe in Maria Sakkari in the quarterfinals, while second seed Aryna Sabalenka has 2020 Roland Garros champion Iga Swiatek standing in her path.

Fourth seed Barbora Krejcikova could face Anett Kontaveit for the second time in as many weeks, as the two are scheduled to meet in the semifinals of the Sydney Tennis Classic. An all-Spanish battle could round out the final eight, as compatriots Garbine Muguruza and Paula Badosa are set to clash at that stage.
