Nick Kyrgios comes back for the first time since the Laver Cup with a very good 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 win over Liam Broady to reach the 2nd round at the #AusOpen. Next: Medvedev. Kyrgios leads the h2h 2-0.
A very inspired Nick Kyrgios stepped out onto the Melbourne courts today eager to finally play some tennis after his return was delayed by a positive COVID test. Kyrgios faced off against qualifier Broady who is capable of hurting you if you give him a chance. Kyrgios did not give him any chances early and looked to be having quite a bit of fun on the courts.
We saw great serves, great shots, trick shots. tweener serves and much from the Australian who cruised to a relatively straightforward first set finish 6-4. In line with typical Kyrgios play the Australian did not press the issue too much rather just did enough and that continued in all of the sets. He took a break in the 2nd set as well and finished it off with 6-4.
The same thing happened again in the 3rd set as one break was all that he needed to win the set. He did not press the issue any further and mainly focused on keeping the break once he got it. It's a tactic that worked and it was very good seeing Kyrgios having fun on the court once more. It's been a less than desirable few months for him and playing at home does him good.
