Nick Kyrgios continues his good play in Houston by defeating native
Tommy Paul in straigh sets 6-4 6-2.
The Australian has not played on clay since 2019 but opted to play at the Houston event before heading off to Australia to rest and recover. He will once again miss the entire European clay season and return on grass. So far it's been going good on clay for him as he admitted after his 1st round match that his game actually fits the surface really well.
He demonstrated that with another stunning performance against Tommy Paul taking him down 6-4 6-2. The first set was a very close one with both players have good success on their own serve. Kyrgios had a clumsy hold at 1-2 saving a few break points but he also took the lead in the next game. From there it was a rather comfortable cruise to a 6-4 finish.
It was a clear game plan from Kyrgios. He was dominant on his own serve dropping only two points. He attacked his opponent's 2nd serve and it worked. The 2nd set was even more impressive for Nick as he cruised to a 6-2 finish. He was dominant on his first serve once again and did enough on return to finish off the match.
