Quite a doubles pairing was debuted today in Stuttgart with Nick Kyrgios teaming up with Alexander Bublik to win their first round.
This was the first match Kyrgios played since the tour shifted to clay and he looked as comfortable as he ever did on the green surface. The Australian has high hopes for Wimbledon where he played superb tennis last year before getting injured against Auger-Aliassime. Today together with Bublik he took down Hach and Oswald in quick fashion.
It was a very boom or bust type of tennis where they did not waste any time. Both of them have a powerful serve and are tall making them very dangerous as a grass-court double. It took them only 50 minutes to win the match behind 8 aces and 93 % of 1st serve wins.
They only dropped two points behind their first serve and saved all four break points they faced. They also converted 3 of 4 break points they had to win the match 6-2 6-4 and move on. Kyrgios admitted he hopes to bring the Special K's to Wimbledon this year and this practice doubles event should serve as a good warm-up.
