The Laver
Cup will come to an end on Sunday, with Team World leading Team Europe 8-4. It
was a great second day for John McEnroe's team, who secured three victories and
are now in a strong position to win the title for the third consecutive time.
Both teams
will rely on their top-ranked players on the final day, repeating the same
singles players as Saturday but with different opponents. Unlike the first two
days, the doubles match will kick off the day, and each match will be worth 3
points.
Bjorn
Borg's chosen pair will be
Carlos Alcaraz and
Casper Ruud, despite the
Norwegian's poor performance in Saturday's loss alongside Tsitsipas. Their
opponents will be the American duo of
Ben Shelton and
Frances Tiafoe, who will
be aiming to keep Team World's winning streak alive.
After the
doubles, the singles matches will begin, with
Daniil Medvedev (No. 5) facing
Ben Shelton, with no previous meetings between them. The Russian will try to
bounce back from Saturday's surprising defeat to Tiafoe and keep Europe in
contention.
Team World
needs just two wins from the final four matches to secure the title. If they
win both the doubles and the first singles, the last matches will not be played
and will be replaced by an exhibition doubles.
If Europe
manages at least one win, world No. 2
Alexander Zverev will take on Frances
Tiafoe. So far, the German dominates their head-to-head record 7-1, but Big-Foe
comes into the match full of confidence after defeating Medvedev for the first
time in six encounters.
In case the
tournament comes down to a decisive match, McEnroe and Borg will rely on their
top players. Team Europe will turn to 4-time Grand Slam champion Carlos
Alcaraz, while Team World will have recent US Open runner-up
Taylor Fritz, who
impressed by defeating Zverev on Saturday.
