One of the most exciting rising stars in the world of tennis,
Leylah Fernandez recently confronted and put a fan on social media in their place with her sarcasm.
The 20-year-old Canadian player has a strong presence on social media across platforms and likes to interact with her fans regularly. She also posts interesting photographs and videos of herself and her family members. While the majority of her followers enjoy and react positively to her posts, there are a few who try to belittle the youngster.
Fernandez posted a video on her Instagram account and poked fun at how different tennis players appeared in their photographs off the court and during the matches. She included four photographs of herself in which she is nicely dressed and has her makeup on. This was followed by four in-action photographs from different matches where she can be seen drenched in sweat.
One fan left a comment on the post, suggesting that the player was more interested in social media than in tennis and that she would lose her sponsorship deals unless she started to win matches.
"You've become a social network pro but cannot win matches. All your deals will disappear without wins," they said.
To this, Leylah Fernandez replied:
"Well aren’t you delightful with some great insights."
The World No. 39, who turned pro in 2019, shot to fame when she reached the final of the 2021 US Open at the age of 19. Before losing to Great Britain's Emma Raducanu in the summit clash, Fernandez defeated four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber, and 2023 Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka.
