Dominic Thiem is the most searched person in Austria according to Google Trends, following in the footsteps of Holger Rune, who was the most searched person in Denmark. The former US Open champion had another season that fell short of his best years, finishing the year as world No. 98.
According to the rankings, no person in Austria was searched on Google more frequently in 2023 than Dominic Thiem. He's not the only tennis player with a high search index, as Sebastian Ofner also appears in third place.
The 30-year-old tennis player concluded the year with a 19-24 record in ATP tournaments and total prize money of $753,726. Thiem struggled to produce notable results in major tournaments, with a 1-4 record in Grand Slams. His lone success came at the US Open, where he reached the second round by defeating the 25th seed Aleksander Bublik, marking his best victory of the year.
Thiem reached the second round in Masters 1000 events three times, and his best result was reaching the final of the ATP 250 Kitzbuhel Open. Unfortunately, he couldn't secure the title on home soil, falling to the Argentine Sebastian Baez.
The Google Trends list also placed the Austrian No. 1, Sebastian Ofner (world No. 43), among the most searched individuals. The 27-year-old tennis player achieved his career-best ranking by entering the top 50 for the first time and is ranked as the third most searched person in the country.
Ofner's best result of the year was reaching the fourth round of the French Open, where he progressed from the qualifiers, including a victory over the 24th seed Sebastian Korda. However, he ultimately lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas (No. 5) in three sets.
Additionally, Ofner reached seven finals in Challenger tournaments, securing the title in Salzburg in July 2023.
