Andy Murray shows no sign of letting up and on his return to Toronto, he is through his opening round at the Canadian Open (National Bank Open).
He saw off Lorenzo Sonego 7-6(3), 6-0 after a good week in Washington which saw him lose out Taylor Fritz in the Last 16 in his first match since Wimbledon.
But as ever with Murray, it is always it could be the final insert tournament here with the former World Number One in the twilight of his career.
The Brit often shows though why he shouldn't be written off yet. He nearly was on the back foot early though going set point down at 5-4 40-15 in the opener, but wasted two set points.
Sonego seemed to be deflated after that as Murray cruised in the tiebreak. He sealed it 7-3 who remained locked in to the task at hand. This continued as Murray went into a 3-0 lead to begin the second set and this was half way to a bagel clean sweep.
It was his first victory at the Canadian Open in 8 years and while far from ideal in terms of an opener, he stepped up when needed with 18 unforced errors off the racquet of Sonego helping his charge.
He will now face Felix Auger-Aliassime or Max Purcell who play next up in the second round in Canada.
