A very comfortable match for Sakkari ended with her win 6-3 6-2 over Alexandrova in Doha with
Jessica Pegula having a very different experience and barely battling past Ostapenko 6-2 2-6 7-5.
Maria Sakkari is back to playing solid tennis after sustaining a very early exit at the Australian Open. She's had moments like this in her career when she plays really well but then completely bombs one match. It happened to her last week in Linz but so far it's been looking good in Doha. The opponent was a tricky one in Alexandrova and if you discount a somewhat shaky start, Sakkari handled it well.
She took the first set 6-3 and then added the second 6-2 for a very comfortable win. Her colleague Jessica Pegula did not have that experience as she faced
Jelena Ostapenko. It was a pretty good start from Pegula as she took the first set 6-2. Ostapenko was all over the place which is not so unusual for her but she soon found her rhythm.
When she did, Ostapenko completely blew Pegula off the court taking the second set 6-2. Ostapenko was cruising in the final set taking an early 3-0 lead. She was up 5-2 but then completely fell apart losing five games in a row to lose the set 5-7 and the match 1-2 in sets. A superb comeback by Pegula.
