Maria Sakkari is through to the
Ostrava Open semi-final after win over Tereza Martincova in straight sets 7-5 6-3.
Maria Sakkari continues to gather points in 2021 after another solid performance and win over Martincova in Ostrava. The Czech player played a great event but her journey finished today against a very strong Sakkari who is gathering points needed for a place at the WTA Finals in Guadalajara. The Greek player played great from the start taking an early 3-1 lead which she maintained for until 5-4.
She served for the set at 5-4 but Martincova broke her at the perfect time to make it 5-5. However, Sakkari continued applying pressure and after breaking the Czech player once more proceeded to close out the set with 7-5.
A very solid first set by both with Sakkari simply playing better in key moments of the match. The 2nd set was a very fun one with lots of great rallies but Sakkari was simply stunning. On her own serve, she was unplayable dropping only 3 points in the whole set. On return she applied a lot of pressure on Martincova who held on for the majority of the set avoiding a very hard defeat.
In the end, Sakkari closed it out with 6-3 as Martincova simply did not have enough to overturn an early break she sustained. The Greek player broke her opponent once more to close it out moving on to the semifinal.
