"Marry my sister Carlos!" - Carlos Alcaraz left in stitches after outlandish marriage proposal

Carlos Alcaraz battled through for a hugely important win at the Laver Cup against Taylor Fritz but was left stunned after a peculiar question from the audience left him in stitches, being forced to find an answer to the comedic question.

Alcaraz has made the Laver Cup a routine tournament on his calendar. He enjoys competing in a team environment and relishes the prospect of representing Team Europe on court. He has done so twice more in the past, leading them to glory in 2024 before Team World got their bragging rights back last time out.

In that edition in San Francisco, Fritz picked up a massive win over Alcaraz, who had just won the US Open and was World No.1. Both players were in a slightly different position 12 months later, but the same result could have occurred with the American squandering a match point. Alcaraz edged ahead at the right time, prevailing 6-3, 4-6, [13-11].

He was speaking to Sam Querrey after the match. The former professional tennis player just asked him a question, and Alcaraz was set to answer it before their attention was turned to someone in the crowd asking a bizarre but funny question.

"Marry my sister Carlos!" came a call from one of the spectators. Alcaraz turned to that direction and responded, "What the heck?" He then politely refused before completely forgetting the question Querrey had just asked him. "I'm too young still. Well, I just... What was the question sorry?"

The lighthearted moment in a sense personifies the Laver Cup to an extent. On the other hand, the exhibition is fiercely competed by each player, especially Alcaraz who had to be at his best to see off a dangerous Fritz.

He started well, breaking in the early stages before Fritz eventually got the match back on serve to make it 3-3. Alcaraz won the final three games from there with a brace of breaks to take the lead.

Fritz was able to muster up a response against the seven-time Grand Slam champion. He won eight points on the spin to seize the initiative in the second set before surviving three break points. The American was able to comfortably see it out from there, forcing another dramatic 10-point tiebreak for the match.

It would prove to be very compelling and costly for Team World. Alcaraz had the first match-winning opportunities, leading 9-7 but missing his first chances. Fritz created a brace of match points, but neither of them was converted as Alcaraz finally got himself over the line in what was a crucial win for Team Europe, drawing them back level with Team World at 5-5.

That was a huge result. Team World could have extended their advantage if Frtiz was more clinical at the right moment. Alcaraz relished the pressure and showed his immense quality that has been sorely missed on the ATP Tour for the best part of four months. Finally, he is back and hounding his ATP rivals on and off the tour.

He will prove to be once more a pivotal part of their team if they get over the line. The doubles tie went the way of Team Europe to conclude day two with a 7-5 advantage for Alcaraz's Team Europe.

Day Three sees another thrilling day of action, which will bring an end to another Laver Cup. Team World are on the back foot as they look to defend their Laver Cup title, with each match earning the teams three points. Fritz will team up with Alex de Minaur, who defeated Alexander Zverev with a courageous comeback, to play Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik.

Zverev will then face Learner Tien before Alcaraz headlines the court once more, this time against de Minaur. The final clash sees debutant Rafael Jodar clash against Fritz in a repeat of the DC Open final earlier this year, but the title could have already been sealed for either team by that point. The team who gets to 13 points first wins, with everything on the line in day three.
