Jannik Sinner ends the year in glory by defeating Alex De Minaur 6-3, 6-0 and clinches the Davis Cup title for Italy for the second time in its history.
The first match of the day in the quest for the title was a significant victory for Matteo Arnaldi over Alexei Popyrin 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. The young Italian set the stage for world No. 4 Jannik Sinner to defeat De Minaur and secure the title without the need to extend the series to the doubles.
Sinner entered, showcasing his best level from the start by securing a break in the third game at the first opportunity the Australian provided. With little trouble from the service, Sinner only conceded one break point during the set, which he saved easily.
With the score 5-3 in favor of the Italian, a hesitant De Minaur conceded three set points to his rival, which he ultimately secured on his second chance for a 6-3 advantage. Sinner won 67% of the service points, while the Aussie only managed 55%. Additionally, the Australian had 10 winners and 10 unforced errors compared to Sinner's 16 winners with 6 unforced errors.
In the second set, the young star showcased his best tennis and was a force to be reckoned with. Sinner took the set in just 36 minutes, thanks to three consecutive breaks in which De Minaur, despite giving his all on the court, couldn't do anything against Sinner's aggressive forehands.
De Minaur couldn't close out any games with his service, and although he saved three match points against him in the sixth game, Sinner ultimately maintained composure. Without the need to rely on his serve, he secured an eighth consecutive game, sealing the victory with a score of 6-3, 6-0 for Italy to claim its second Davis Cup title.
Much of the match was one-sided, with few long points played, as Sinner was a nightmare and didn't give De Minaur any chances, showing superiority from start to finish. The Italians take home their second trophy in history, led this time by Jannik Sinner, also featuring the presence of Lorenzo Sonego, Matteo Arnaldi, Luca Nardi, and Lorenzo Mussetti.
