Novak Djokovic has eased through to the Last 16 of the 2024 Shanghai Masters days after his first win in China. He eased past a tough test on paper in Flávio Cobolli.
Usually the kind of tests that Djokovic trips up on this year. He saw off the World No.30 6-1, 6-2 as he goes one away from the Quarter-Finals after making his return to the tournament for the first time since 2019.
It won’t be Frances Tiafoe either next either as his draw opens up marginally. He will take on Roman Safiullin who dumped out the American earlier today.
For Djokovic, it was an utter masterclass with the 37 year old moving around the court like he was ten years younger. In reality, Cobolli didn’t play that badly but the Serbian was just too good.
In what could be his penultimate tournament of the season, it is a reminder of his casual brilliance that he has displayed at different junctures this season. Albeit losing in shock losses a lot so Safiullin could be his main test on his Shanghai return.
