For the 2nd year in a row, Matteo Berrettini will play in the Queen's Club final after he down Botic van de Zandschulp 6-4 6-3.
It was a match that barely went ahead as there were some rain drops in London among some overall bad weather in the UK. The Birmingham event completely cancelled its entire schedule today due to rain but this match was able to go ahead after the players agreed to play in the tricky conditions. It was a balanced start by both players as neither faced issues early.
The first one to truly face issues was van de Zandschulp down 2-3 when he faced break points. He wasn't able to and Baerrettini took the 4-2 lead and held his serve for the 5-2 lead. It seemed like a typical Berrettini match where he dominated play with his baseline play. Well, things went south at 5-3 when he served for the opening set.
Botic got to a break point and converted it by Matteo committing a rare double fault. It was a huge chance for him to get back into the match but he botched it by dropping his serve once more and losing the opening set. The 2nd set was another straightforward one for Berrettini even if it got suspended midway through to rain.
The players returned about 20 minutes later and continued playing with Berrettini cruising to a 6-3 finish. Overall another good win and another final for Matteo who is looking superbly sharp ahead of Wimbledon.
