For the 2nd week in a row,
Daniil Medvedev will contest a grass event final as he bested native
Oscar Otte in the Halle semifinal 7-6(3) 6-3.
This was a match where Otte had plenty of chances to take it as Medvedev produced another solid but not spectacularly great performance. It's been a week like that for Medvedev as never found his best but he only needed to be better than his opponent. Today he was despite some early struggles.
Medvedev had to save early break point once again and while he was able to do so initially, he still fell behind 3-5 later on. Otte served for the opening set at 5-3 getting himself to a set point but he failed to use it and Medvedev swiftly punished him for it. After that, we went into a tiebreak and the Russian proved better in that one winning 7-3.
The 2nd set was much easier for Medvedev as he understood by now how to properly attack Otte. The German was very hard to counter in most rallies so Medvedev resorted to patience. Eventually, he got that one bad game from Otte and he broke him for the 4-2 lead. On his own serve, Medvedev largely dominated not allowing a single break point in the 2nd set.
That was an improvement on the first set where he faced six total. A very good win for Medvedev especially after the slow start.
