Matteo Berrettini is into his third final of the year and has reached the Swiss Open Gstaad final where he will take on Quentin Halys tomorrow after taking down Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6(2), 7-5 on Saturday.
Berrettini who won the final in Gstaad in 2018 has struggled with injury since reaching a career high of World Number Six in May 2022. He had lost his five previous meetings with the World Number 12. But he managed to find his way through in the key moments to reach his second final of the year.
He will face French qualifier Halys who is ranked World Number 192 who beat Jan-Lennard Struff 6-3, 7-6(5) to reach his first ever ATP final. Berrettini's return to form started in Marrakech sealing the title.
After which he progressed to the final in Stuttgart where he was defeated in three sets by Jack Draper. He did not compete at the French Open but put up a good fight in the second round at Wimbledon where he came second best to Jannik Sinner in a tight four setter.
Usually a surface he plays well on in grass, he showed green shoots but will.now look forward to a pivotal few weeks on clay before heading to the US. With the Olympic Games in two weeks, he has reached a fourth final of the season and showed that amid all of the issues in the background, he very much still has the talent to compete and defeat a top 10 player in Tsitsipas. Albeit Tsitsipas has stuttered again after showing superb form throughout the early clay court season.
