Hubert Hurkacz lost in the
Wimbledon semifinal to Matteo Berrettini in 4 sets and the Polish player spoke after the match.
Hurkacz did not play his best tennis in the semifinal against Berrettini but the Italian also played a great match with severely limited Hurkacz and his ability to do anything. The Polish player admitted as much saying:
“Matteo played [an] unbelievable match today. Huge congrats to him. Every single service game, he was serving bombs. I didn't have many chances, basically zero. Huge congrats for him that he kept such a high level throughout the whole four sets. He played really well.”
Asked to elaborate in depth what went wrong for him Hurkacz said:
“He was putting a lot of pressure on me. My first serve really wasn't helping me, which usually [it] does and [it] gets me out of trouble. I was struggling with that. Plus he was putting a lot of pressure on me and he was playing really amazing without [making] any unforced errors. I wasn't playing great at that time, but he was putting a lot of pressure.”
Asked about the outcome of the final Hurkacz did not go into depth but he praised his opponent once more saying:
“If he continues to play like this, he has a really big chance in the final."
