America’s young tennis star Ben
Shelton believes that maybe he is destined to play on bigger stages.
The 21-year-old is currently
playing in the
Shanghai Masters where he booked his place in the quarterfinal
after beating Italy’s Jannik Sinner with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 7-6.
The victory was a special one, especially
considering that Shelton lost the first set against an in-form Sinner and still
managed to find a way and book his place in the next round.
Shelton was asked about how he is
feeling after booking his place in the Masters quarterfinal and he responded
by saying: “I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe I’m addicted to playing on the
big stages.
“I definitely haven’t had a normal
upbringing in the tennis world or first year on tour. It’s kind of been a
little backwards figuring things out as we go. I’m just gonna try to keep
building & improving each & every week.”
Shelton is often regarded as the
best young male player from the USA currently playing in the tennis circuit.
The Atlanta-born showcased his
class in the recently concluded US Open where his journey eventually ended
after losing to the current world number one and Serbia’s legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic with a score of 6-3, 6-2, 7-6.
